My name
is Victor Tanko, I am obsessed with sales and marketing,
especially
technology sales.
How did
this become my life?
Well,
in 1996, I joined a merchandising company called, Cross World Ventures, my job
title was, ‘Merchandiser’ there, I was taught ‘direct
selling’
meaning, hopping from one location to another lookingfor sales..
Then,
we had no salary, it was basically ‘earn when you sell’ sales
commission.
My
daily goal/expectation was to talk to 300-400 persons in search of
that
person who would buy whatever I had in stock that day, and meeting
this
many people daily is called ‘the law of averages’ meaning, the
more
people you see and talk to, the more likely it is to find a
buyer’ literally.
Most
interestingly then was the routine morning sales pitch training using
the ‘5
Steps to Sale’ and ‘8 Steps to Success’ sales manual, the
vigorous
interchange of sales pitches by trainers and trainees
prepared
us for the day’s outing..
In
2002, I joined Akklaim Telecoms, the then premier provider of pagers,
international call cards and other technology products.. easy-fax and easy-call
etc.
The
beginning of 2004 gave me a start when I joined Startech Connections, a Fixed
Wireless Access provider, that was my debut into sales of broadband internet
and Fixed Wireless Telephony under the SCDMA frequency spectrum.
Two
years later, 2006, i made another move , this time into sales and distribution,
I tookthe role of Regional Sales Manager withGreat Brands Ltd to manage the
sales and distribution of Nokia mobile devices where I won the award for the
best sales manager for doing $9m monthly.
In
March of 2008, i joined Globacom as Head of Branding for the Abuja
Region,
It was time for something a bit off, my new role was responsible for generating
market demand for airtime sales through Branding and Marketing communications.
Moving
away from Globacom in 2011, I Joined Resourcery Plc In January 2012as Regional Manager,
North, there,
I was responsible for business development, revenue generation and drive for
increase in market share in our business space - Resourcery is a foremost ICT
provider, and the first systems integrator Nigeria, in provides end-to-end ICT solutions
across all industry verticals in Nigeria and West Africa.
Breakaway…
I quit
my full-time (8am-5pm) job in December of 2016, then I launched a small ICT
start-up in January 2017 to focus mainly
on enterprise technology solutions opportunities for different industry

As
chief operating officer for Cloud Access Ltd, i am responsible for the Businessdevelopment,
sales management, human capital management, executive
Management
and profit and loss.
Alongside
my current role as COO, Cloud Access Ltd, I have begun developing a new career
in online marketing, part of which includes the advocacy for the adoption
ofcrypto currency, and also being part of several affiliate programs for some
online establishments, and soon, I hope to establish a very strong Victor Tanko
online presence which will
ultimately focus on developing digital entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
